Abdul Ghani Abdul Hamid (April 13, 1933 – April 13, 2014 in Singapore), (commonly known as A. Ghani Hamid or Abdul Ghani Hamid; also known by his pen name Lazuardi) is an award-winning Singaporean writer, poet and artist. Abdul has written hundreds of stories, in English Language and Malay Language and participated in more than 60 art exhibitions. He received the Anugerah Tun Seri Lanang in 1997,〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Singapore Literary Pioneers: Abdul Ghani Hamid )〕 the Cultural Medallion in 1999 for literature and the Southeast Asia Write Award in 1998. ==Life and career== Abdul Ghani Abdul Hamid was born on April 13, 1933 in Kampung Siglap (now Kampung Bahru), East Coast Road, Singapore.〔 While studying in secondary school, he would poems and articles penned by himself to local Malay newspapers and magazines and also held his inaugural art exhibition during a Youth Festival.〔 After his studies, he worked as an apprentice of the Electrical Department of Keppel Harbour. After which, Abdul found a job as a clerk at the Public Utilities Board (PUB), then known as the Singapore Municipality. He left the PUB in 1988.〔
